What’s It All About

The 1 Sentence Summary of Death of a Vlogger

Death of a Vlogger offers a unique take on the mockumentary genre with jump scares and a twist as a vlogger goes viral after he starts to experience activity on camera.

Cast and Director

Death of a Vlogger stars Graham Hughes, Annabel Logan, and Paddy Kondracki. Hughes also wrote, directed, and produced the film as well. Fun fact: The majority of the film was shot in Hughes’s apartment.

Spoiler Alert

We’d much rather you watch the movie than read some of our favorite and least favorite parts about it. But if you have to know, check out our breakdown below.

The first real jump scare in the movie. It happens after Graham (Graham Hughes) and his girlfriend Erin (Annabel Logan) are woken in the middle of the night. Erin is sitting up in bed with her back to the door and the camera is focused on her face. When she moves, the ghost woman is standing in the doorway. There are no special effects but still super effective.

The ghost woman, hands down. Reminiscent of the ghosts from The Ring or The Grudge, we never see her face and she doesn’t have any lines but her timing is impeccable.

There’s a scene in which a sheets are standing in the shape of the ghost woman. They deflate and fall to the floor. Graham (Graham Hughes) goes to the pile of sheets and starts to nudge them with his foot. The sheets shoot up from the ground back into the shape of the ghost woman.

Because this is a mockumentary, there are several pieces of “interviews” inserted throughout the film. Although this gives context and behind-the-story type information, I’m not a big fan. To me, it breaks up the action and the story. It feels as if the film starts to build and gets my full attention and then cut to an interview. This is definitely a personal preference but worth noting.

Scare Critic Review

Beyond enough jump scares to keep you on your toes, this film takes a look at the mental effects of wanting adoration and needing acceptance of those on social media.
