Cast and Director
Starring Barbara Kingsley as the elderly farmhouse owner Karen, Sawyer Spielberg and Malin Barr as the young couple, Honeydew is a creepy take on an old storyline. Directed by Devereux Milburn, Honeydew adds its own creepy flair to this tale as old as time.
Spoiler Alert
We’d much rather you watch the movie than read some of our favorite and least favorite parts about it. But if you have to know, check out our breakdown below.
Karen explains to the couple how they’ve been able to survive after no longer being a profitable cattle ranch, thus revealing the cannibal storyline expected from the beginning. The old couple is having dinner at a picnic table while the young couple is tied up and perched on a post in their view. On the table is a large, wood box. After Karen has finished her story, the old couple opens the box. There is a woman with no arms or legs, who is unable to speak. Karen explains that this is their daughter, who voluntarily made the greatest sacrifice.
Our favorite character is easily Karen. Barbara Kingsley played her perfectly, making her creepy and scary in the best way
Honeydew is not a jump-scare movie and there’s no one particular scene that’s a scare. What makes this movie scary is the atmosphere, characters, and story (beginning to end).
There were a couple of scenes that didn’t really “wrap up” or make sense. At one point, Sam (the young man) gets out of bed and gets dressed. Rylie (his girlfriend) asks him where he’s going repeatedly and then yells at him because he doesn’t even acknowledge her. The next scene is Sam in the kitchen, reheating food. When we see Sam and Rylie together again it’s like nothing happened.

Scare Critics Say: WORTH A WATCH
Scare Critic Review
Although cannibalism is a tale as old as time, this movie brings its own unique creepiness to the arena. If the ambiance of the dark and dirty, but well loved farmhouse isn’t enough to put you on edge, the characters definitely will. If you’re looking for a movie that will leave you feeling disturbed well after watching, Honeydew is the movie for you.
