Spoiler Alert
We’d much rather you watch the movie than read some of our favorite and least favorite parts about it. But if you have to know, check out our breakdown below.
Included in the group dropped off at the beach are three kids. Two of the kids (boy and girl) from different families are about the same age and start to play together right away. With the accelerated aging process the beach is causing not only are they getting older physically, but hormonally as well. The boy and girl, well into their late teens physically by now, are hanging out in a blanket tent talking. The tent is deceiving as it gives the illusion of the kids still being kids despite the aging process. Cut to the adults talking about what to do. They turn around to see the boy and girl walking towards them and the girl is pregnant. It was a bit shocking and a lot disturbing.  Â
Our favorite character is Charles. A surgeon, with early onset dementia, he’s stoic and refined until the façade is cracked by his condition coming through. He’s unpredictable and a troublemaker for the group.Â
Although in the horror genre, Old isn’t that kind of movie. There were no jump scares or big scary monsters. The discomfort comes in watching their conditions develop rapidly, their failed attempts to leave the island, and seeing each one of them die. Don’t let this fool you though. There were some shocking death scenes.
At times the dialogue felt very disjointed and poorly written. Not sure if that was how the script was written or if it happened in editing but it made some scenes uncomfortable to watch.
