What’s It All About
The 1 Sentence Summary of Seven
A serial killer chooses his victims based on the seven deadly sins while being hunted by detectives Somerset and Mills.
Cast and Director
Starring Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt, Seven isn’t your typical buddy cop movie (although they do make a good team). An all-star cast, also including Gwyneth Paltrow and Kevin Spacey, make this movie, directed by David Fincher (director of Gone Girl and Zodiac) makes this suspenseful thriller a must-see.
Spoiler Alert
We’d much rather you watch the movie than read some of our favorite and least favorite parts about it. But if you have to know, check out our breakdown below.
There’s a certain shock that takes hold when we’re introduced to the gluttony crime scene. When the shock wears off, we’re left with disgust and disbelief. It’s not about the crime itself, it’s about the scene. A dirty, cluttered apartment with the obese body as the focal point. As the details of the crime are revealed piece by piece, the shock comes back and grips us again.
The easy choice is Brad Pitt’s character, Detective David Mills. However, the real star of the movie is “the box”.
Seven isn’t a jumpscare movie but it is scary. Is it because it’s about a human with no paranormal forces or evil entities committing these crimes? Or maybe it’s scary because it came from a person’s mind which means it could be possible. Either way, the best scare definitely comes at the end of the movie when Detective Mills (Brad Pitt) receives a special delivery (aka. the box).
The first crime scene (gluttony), was a masterpiece with all of the detail of a well-written crime novel. They took their time examining the clues and describing the scene. Moving forward in the movie, it started to feel rushed and the detail started to fade away. I’d rather have a longer run time than lose gritty details any day.
