What’s It All About
The 1 Sentence Summary of What We Do in the Shadows
A mockumentary tv series that follows a group of vampires and their familiars as they tactical the problems of everyday life (at least everyday vampiric life).
Cast and Creator
Starring Kayvan Novak as Nandor, Matt Berry as Laszlo Cravensworth, Natasia Demetriou as Nadja, Harvey Guillén as Guillermo de la Cruz, and Mark Proksch as Colin Robinson, What We Do in the Shadows definitely delivers. As a spin off of the movie and Jemaine Clement as the creator, What We Do in the Shadows brings a darkly funny perspective to being a vampire in the 21st century.
Spoiler Alert
We’d much rather you watch the movie than read some of our favorite and least favorite parts about it. But if you have to know, check out our breakdown below.
Scare Critic’s favorite scene so far (of seasons 1 and 2), is when Baron Afanas (Doug Jones) decides to eat some human food and is propelled violently into the air when he vomits. He continues to a ridiculous air dance with vomit propulsion for several minutes. The commentary by the other vampires hilariously fills out the rest of the scene.
There are so many vamps and familiars to love in this show, but the favorite goes to Nandor (Kayvan Novak). His relationship with the rest of his flat mates and his familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), leads to plenty of comedic moments. He is a character many of the other characters build upon.
Since this is a dark comedy, instead of best scare, we have a best laugh. When introducing the vampires at the beginning of the series, Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) was hilariously introduced as an energy vampire, the only type of vampire that can drain other vampires. Everyone has probably encountered an energy vampire before.
There have been a couple of storylines that have been so-so. Nadja’s romantic attachment to a long lost lover, Guillermo’s realization he is a vampire hunter and a couple of others weren’t so amazing. But overall, all episodes deliver a couple of good laughs.
